While rumors swirl of a new romance for newly single Rory McIlroy with CBS sportswriter Amanda Balionis, her husband, Bryn Renner, appears to be in the middle of it.
McIlroy filed for divorce from Erica Stoll last week and was seen out in public with Balionis before the split became official at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina.
Balionis’ flirty energy was evident to golf fans around McIlroy compared to how she interviewed other golfers.
Balionis’ social media name no longer carries her married surname and she has been spotted at recent golf events without her wedding ring on.
Now Renner’s name is being thrust into the spotlight as the possible romance between McIlroy and Balionis heats up.

Who is Bryn Renner?
Renner is a 34-year-old former NFL quarterback and former quarterbacks coach at Florida International University, with the Panthers competing in the FBS-level Conference USA.
Renner never played in a regular-season NFL game, but spent time on the practice or preseason squads of five different teams over three seasons.
Before trying to break into the NFL, Renner was a quarterback at North Carolina from 2009 to 2013.
He was the Tar Heels’ primary starter for three seasons after recapturing his freshman season and serving as a backup in 2010.
Renner’s time coaching college football lasted from 2016-2021, with a brief stint at Austin Peay before heading to FIU.
According to his LinkedIn page, Renner is now an account manager at KLDiscovery, a technology company that helps with legal services.

Balionis and Renner got engaged on a beach in 2021 and married in 2022.
The couple reportedly got together in 2019 and spent more than four years as an item before Balionis made her first public appearance without her wedding ring.
The couple now appears to be separated and McIlroy is spending more time near Balionis’ home in San Diego.

What has he accomplished in the NFL?
Renner was not selected in the 2014 NFL Draft and originally signed with the Denver Broncos.
He then bounced around with the Ravens, Titans, Chargers and Steelers in the two years after leaving Denver.
Renner also had a stint with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League in 2014.
Renner retired from football after being cut from Pittsburgh’s roster in September 2016.
