Water main break disrupts businesses, tourist attractions in downtown Atlanta, other areas of city

2 women found dead and 5-year-old girl critically injured in New Mexico park, police say

ATLANTA– A water main break has interrupted water supplies and led to low water pressure in the city center and other parts of the Georgian capital.

Crews were “aggressively working” Friday to make emergency repairs to the 32-inch water main, the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management said in a statement.

“Water service has been temporarily interrupted, impacting residents, businesses and fire hydrants in the area,” the agency said.

Some offices in Atlanta and Fulton County have been closed because of the problem, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Tourist attractions were also affected, including the Georgia Aquarium, which closed prematurely, the newspaper reported.

Zoo Atlanta closed early Friday at 1 p.m. due to water pressure issues, the zoo announced. The zoo, southeast of downtown, “has contingency plans in place to ensure animals have access to water,” according to a statement.
