Triple J presenter reveals why she hates Australian Fashion Week in extraordinary rant… and the very surprising radio star who leapt to her defence: ‘It’s f**king impossible’

A radio presenter has spoken out against the fashion industry after Australian Fashion Week 2024.

Triple J’s Drive show co-host Abby Butler took to TikTok on Thursday with an extraordinary rant about the “feeling” she had when she saw a post about AFW.

‘Australian Fashion Week. I get so much content from it on my feed and I feel this really weird, fuzzy emotion when I see it,” said Abby, who posts under the TikTok handle “FlabbyGutler.”

Abby said she finally realized the feeling was jealousy — not for the guests in attendance, but for those who fit into the kinds of clothes being modeled on the runway.

“I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but because I’m a size 16 to 18, it’s bloody impossible. It’s so hard,” she lamented.

“As someone who has style, cares about fashion and likes to talk about it and engage with it, it’s virtually impossible to walk into a store in Australia and find clothes that fit.”

Abby admitted that while there are plenty of Australian retailers offering plus-size options, she finds it especially difficult to find clothes she really likes.

‘I know there are retailers doing it well, but it’s so much like bodycon: midi shift dresses, which is fine if that’s your thing. But for those I don’t know, I feel like I want to dress a little more masculine,” she said.

She further complained that it took “months of research, hundreds of dollars and literal tears” to find a pair of jeans that fit.

‘It is so hard. And I just watched the Australian Fashion Week content and I thought, “I wish, I wish.”

Abby’s followers were quick to share their own grievances with the Australian fashion industry in the comments section.

“I find it so hard to look nice and chic when shopping for size 16. And all I want is to feel beautiful,” one user complained.

‘Thank you for saying this!! Australian-style skinny privilege is insane and needs to be fixed,” wrote another.

‘Every time I want to buy a pair of trousers I want to scream and they are never available in my size. I felt the exact same way while watching the fashion week videos,” yet another user commented.

‘I understand. It’s so true. Now I don’t normally care for the Triple J types, but it really appealed to me. I can’t go anywhere [to buy clothes]Kyle complained.

‘If I go into Zara, forget it! Everything is for little Asian men!’ he added.
