A Thai woman filed a lawsuit against a monk in Chon Buri province, accusing him of cheating and insulting her by saying she was “shameless” when she asked for her donation back because the monk’s lottery numbers did not win any prizes.

The Thai monk, whose identity remains undisclosed, is seeking justice saying the woman named Chompoo repeatedly harassed him and falsely accused him of cheating just because she did not win a lottery prize with the numbers he gave her.

During the interview with Channel 3, the monk explained that he created a social media group for followers to participate in charity projects. In the recent project, members were encouraged to donate 198 baht to provide free food to those in need. As a fun incentive, he shared lucky lottery numbers with the donors.

According to the monk, Chompoo was interested in joining the group, not for the charity project but for the lottery numbers. She requested the numbers from him, so he asked her to donate 198 baht and later added her to a private group chat where he gave a set of lucky numbers.

The monk said he removed Chompoo from the group after giving out the numbers because the group was reserved for close followers only.

After his action, Chompoo asked for a refund of her donation, saying her removal was unfair. The monk added that he thought Chompoo was asking for the refund not because of the removal but because she did not win the lottery.

Ongoing lottery dispute

The monk insisted that he had initially offered a refund because Chompoo was overly focused on the numbers but she did not provide her bank account details. Subsequently, Chompoo allegedly spread false accusations about him on social media, sparking a heated online argument.

Screenshots of their conversation were shared with Channel 3. In reality, Chompoo had demanded a refund, to which the monk responded appropriately, stating, “You already have the numbers. Stop being shameless!”

During the Channel 3 interview, Chompoo emphasised that she did not engage further with the monk after he called her shameless. However, he proceeded to publicly shame her on Facebook and other social media platforms, prompting her to retaliate.

Chompoo shared another screenshot of her TikTok video where the monk commented “Shameless” proving that the monk was the person who harassed her. She also added that she already filed a complaint against the monk at the Lat Phrao Police Station in Bangkok, accusing him of insulting her in the public.

According to the monk, he has already visited the police station for questioning. The officers advised him that they would summon both parties to the police station at a later time. He intends to maintain his status as a monk until the year’s end but is prepared to renounce his monastic vows if required to pursue justice.

Many netizens voiced their opinions on the matter, saying that the monk should not be involved in the lottery in the first place or give lucky numbers to his followers.
