Ruth Langsford told Eamonn Holmes she ‘wouldn’t want to be friends anymore’ after splitting, just days after the couple announced their shock split.
The couple, both 64 years old, separated after 14 years of marriage and 27 years together. They publicly declared on Saturday that they are divorcing after their work commitments “took their marriage in a different direction.”
Despite the pair promising to ‘remain friends and keep things amicable’, Ruth had a very different opinion a few years ago – and in fact said the opposite.
In a resurfaced clip from 2018, when the duo co-hosted This Morning, Ruth and Eamonn discussed their conflicting opinions on staying friends with an ex.
But little did she know that almost six years later they would be in that exact situation. Ruth revealed at the time that she would ‘never’ want to be friends with an ex.

Eamonn said: ‘It’s easier to stay friends.
Ruth said, ‘Why should you stay friends, you’re not with them anymore, you don’t have to be friends.
“My thing is you weren’t just friends, you were married or in a relationship.”
MailOnline revealed on Monday that Ruth had ‘orchestrated’ her split from Eamonn, who is left devastated and refused to sign the joint statement announcing the end of their almost 30-year relationship.
The statement citing their work commitments that took their marriage ‘in different directions’ was in fact arranged by Ruth, with Eamonn refusing to play a role in its release.
Sources told Mail+ that Eamonn is devastated over the split and that the split was ‘largely orchestrated by Ruth’.
Eamonn reportedly told friends he “didn’t want to get involved” and that “Ruth can do whatever she wants but keep me out of it.”

But not knowing they would be in exactly the same situation almost six years later, Ruth revealed she would ‘never’ want to be friends with an ex
Ruth said, ‘Why should you stay friends, you’re not with them anymore, you don’t have to be friends. “My thing is you weren’t just friends, you were married or in a relationship.”
The couple until recently lived together in their £3.2 million home in Weybridge, Surrey. Ruth walked the dog between rain showers yesterday and spent time with her mother Joan.
On Instagram she said: “Enjoy the little bit of sun we got today.”
Eamonn, meanwhile, shared his own weekend post on Instagram as he enjoyed Manchester United’s shock FA Cup final win over Manchester City, sharing an illustration of himself with Sir Alex Ferguson.
The caption read: ‘My God, what a cup final, what a result! Next season also European football. The magic of the cup. Congratulations to the entire team.”
Eamonn, a trustee of the Manchester United Foundation, saw his post flooded with comments from concerned fans asking him about his split from Ruth.

The couple tied the knot in 2010 after 13 years together – and say they are ‘determined to remain friends’ despite their split.
Eamonn and Ruth married in 2010 after thirteen years together, in a lavish ceremony at the grand 19th century Hampshire hotel, The Elvetham.
They are parents to son Jack, 22, while Eamonn also has sons Declan, 35, Niall, 31, and daughter Rebecca, 33, from his previous marriage.
Insiders claimed on Sunday that the pair have been living separate lives for two years, with their relationship deteriorating after they left This Morning in 2021.
Eamonn has had a tough two years, losing the ITV show, dealing with health problems and mourning the death of his mother. The presenter was keen to move to Belfast but Ruth was adamant they would stay at their home in Surrey.
A source said The sun on Sunday evening: ‘Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left this morning. They were going in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change.”
‘Eamonn was desperate to return to Belfast, which he considers his home, but Ruth would never move. It became a point of contention.
‘As her ITV career continued, Eamonn took a different path and they became ships in the night. For the past two years they had led separate lives, both professionally and personally.’
Eamonn opened up about his desire to return to Belfast last year and revealed how his wife was always ‘very annoyed’ when he called it home.
Last year, when asked where he thinks his home is, he said: “Well, it’s not Surrey. When people ask me what I do on the weekend, I say I go home.
‘Then my wife gets very irritated by that. She says, ‘This is your house. And I say, ‘No Ruth, this is where I work. This is where I need to be, but at home…’
