Zippy Fish already stands out from her peers thanks to her unforgettable name – and the budding footy star is now set to make it big in footy.
Fish, 17, has been a standout in midfield for East Fremantle in the WAFLW competition this season – and recently had a day out against Peel Thunder.
The teenager with potentially the best name in Australian sport finished with 29 disposals and 12 inside fifties – before scoring two goals in the 105-point win.
It was a scintillating performance that more than justified Fish’s status as the AFLW’s potential No. 1 draft selection.
When it comes to her very unique name, the youngster revealed that it is actually an abbreviation of Zipporah, which is of Biblical origin.

After growing up in Newman – a Pilbara town about a five-hour drive south of Port Hedland and 13 hours north-east of Perth – it took a while for Zippy to discover her love for Aussie Rules.
Fish added that her preferred positions are on the ball or halfback as she likes to see the action ‘behind the play’.
Citing her speed and agility as her best assets on the field, Fish wants to eventually crack the AFLW.
After growing up in Newman, a town in the Pilbara about five hours south of Port Hedland and thirteen hours north-east of Perth, it took a while for her to discover her love for Aussie Rules.
‘My first sport was actually athletics. I have played almost every sport [while in Newman], and then moved to Perth. “I did track and field, switched to football and then played basketball for a few years,” Fish said AFL.com.au.
‘My football career started about four years ago, I think. I was watching some friends playing at the local club, and I thought, ‘Oh dad, this looks fun.’
In December, Fish hopes to have her name read for the draft – and outside of football she is studying to become a teacher.
