    A police officer has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in broad daylight.

    The officer was attacked next to the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park on Elizabeth Street, Sydney, at around 1pm on Sunday.

    He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital after suffering non-life-threatening head injuries.

    A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed a 33-year-old man was arrested and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for assessment.

    A witness told Daily Mail Australia that a good Samaritan stopped his van and chased the knifeman before police arrived on the scene.

    Footage from the scene shows around 20 police officers and paramedics treating a man before he is placed on a stretcher and into an ambulance.

    The witness said the chaotic scene was “well under control” within 20 minutes after plainclothes police arrived in unmarked cars and two riot vans.

    “There is no ongoing threat to the public,” the spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
