Manchester United winger Antony was left stunned after Erik ten Hag asked him to play as an emergency left-back for the second time in two months on Sunday.

The much-maligned winger initially came on as a substitute in the 70th minute of the Red Devils’ 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal, playing in his usual position on the right.

However, as the Old Trafford side pushed for an equalizer, Ten Hag made an attacking decision by dropping right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for striker Omari Forson.

This tactical move saw Antony asked to play as a makeshift left-back, allowing Forson to take his place – much to the Brazilian’s chagrin.

Fan footage from Old Trafford shows the 24-year-old’s confusion and displeasure as he was asked to be played out of position.

Walking slowly after being asked to play at left-back, the winger is walked into his new position and approached by deputy captain Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen.

Antony then makes hand gestures to his head towards the dugout, in disbelief at what is going on.

In disbelief, McTominay berates his teammate as the hosts search for an equalizer.

Antony is then seen discussing something with his Brazilian international teammate Gabriel Jesus, but the Arsenal opponent, covering his mouth with his hand as they engage in dialogue.

Erik ten Hag’s men suffered their fourteenth defeat in a dismal season, dashing their hopes of qualifying for Europe next season.

Antony’s latest poor performance came after former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher punched him following United’s 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Sky Sports pundit was left irritated by footage of the winger in dialogue with teammates Mason Mount and Andre Onana after the whistle.

“Just get off the field!” Carragher shouted. “If you whisper behind your hand, you’ve been absolutely terrible.

Antony has failed to come close to repaying the £86 million he spent to sign him from Ajax in 2022.

The 24-year-old has followed up a lackluster debut campaign with an even worse one, scoring two goals in 29 league appearances.
